Please read rules carefully before submitting
questions. All questions are answered below.
·The script must have title page containing: the title,
author's name, e-mail address, phone number and home address.
·Submissions
must be: short film narrative; 1-5 pages; in any genre; and must be possible to be produced on a low budget in the categories
of hip hop, women, or based on the novel Dare by Abiola Abrams.
·Multiple entries
are permissible, but each entry must be accompanied by an Entry Form, digitally signed, and a copy of an original Dare
receipt.You will be required to show us the original upon request.
·Adaptations
from other works are permissible provided you have the writer's written permission to adapt the work.
·Adaptations of works in the public domain are permissible.
·Collaborative work
is eligible, but each must fill and sign an Entry Form individually.
·Writers under the
age of 18 years old must sign the Entry Form and have a parent or guardian sign the Entry Form.
·Contest
applicants must accept without reservation the decisions rendered.
·The short screenplay
must not have been previously optioned, sold, or produced for profit.
·Once a script has
been entered, no substitutions of new drafts or corrected pages will be considered. You may submit a revised draft of your
script, as a new submission and submit a new receipt.
·Writer understands and accepts without reservation
that he/she is an independent contractor and does not become an employee of Gem Stone King, Abiola Abrams, affiliates or representatives.
·Writer understands that it is his/her sole responsibility to register Material with
the U.S. Copyright Office and/or with the Writer’s Guild of America.
·You have retained
at least one copy of the submitted material, and you understand that all material we receive cannot and will not be returned
under any circumstances.
·You have the option to include a one page synopsis of your short
screenplay.
You must include with each
script an original novel receipt.Duplications and forgeries will be disqualified and forfeit.
Script must be under 5 pages, in industry standard format, in English, 12-point Courier, Courier New or Courier Final Draft font. Treatments alone are not acceptable.
Contest Deadlines
Abiola Abrams and Gem Stone King are not responsible for late or lost submissions.
For Hip Hop themed scripts, the deadline
is February 29, 2008.
For
Women-related scripts, the deadline is March 31, 2008.
For Dare by Abiola Abrams related scripts, the deadline is April 15th.
All finalists will be announced on or
before June 1, 2008.Production schedule will be determined in collaboration with chosen writers.
Confirmation Receipt
·When your submission is received you will be notified by email only
(within four-six weeks). If you do not hear from us within a reasonable time send an email and include your name, address,
phone number and title of your script. If your email address and/or home address changes please let us know, also by
email to abiolasfilmcompetition@gemstoneking.net.No correspondence to any other email address or site will be answered or considered official.Please note that the email address is not staffed by Abiola Abrams.
·By entering this contest and in the event you are declared a finalist
(top 10) or winner, you understand and accept that we will be free to use your name and likeness for advertising or promotional
purposes without additional consideration.
·If you are a finalist
or semifinalist you agree to give Abiola Abrams and GemStoneKing the permission to post on their web
sites, your script's logline, synopsis and excerpts, for possible further voting or promotion.
·You may submit your screenplay to any other person, contest, producer, agent, and/or organization.
·Entering this contest will not limit your copyright in any way. You retain all rights (100%)
to your property.However, please note: Dare
by Abiola Abrams remains the original copy written material owned by Abiola Abrams and Simon and Schuster.Scripts based on Dare are null and void if not selected for this competition. Alternatively, if not selected,
you may write Abiola Abrams and Simon and Schuster for written permission to produce scripts based on Dare elsewhere,
which they may freely grant at their discretion in exchange for promotional consideration.

SCRIPT COMPETITION
As an indie filmmaker and your movie making goddess from
BET's The Best Shorts, one of the biggest questions Abiola Abrams gets from viewers
is how to get your films made. She's found a way to make it happen.
Abiola Abrams in conjunction with jeweler
Gemstone King (http://gemstoneking.net/) is offering you a way to get your story told. We are looking for eye-grabbing, unique, humorous
and outrageous scripts under 5 minutes that Gemstone King will produce, shoot and help market.
In lieu of an entry
fee, all you need to do is purchase an individual copy of Abiola's novel DARE, mail us your script, original receipt and
application and that's it! Gemstone King is looking to produce 3 scripts, so there will be 3 winners!
We are
looking for: a) Hip Hop short scripts under 5 minutes; b) Woman-centric short scripts under 5 minutes; c) DARE
(Abiola's book) related short scripts under 5 minutes. Dare is a fun, smart and sexy hip hop novel that asks what would
you DARE to do if you knew you could not fail.
Abiola Abrams DARES YOU to get work seen!! You must include with
