min. preview short 2005 Experimental Drama
Alicia in Wonderland
is a darkly comedic, partially animated empowerment fairytale about 3 women running a dominatrix dungeon and the grad student
who accidentally stumbles into their world. Alicia in Wonderland is about
wants, needs, fantasies and judgment.
During interviews for Abiola Abrams' documentary TABOO,
a recurring theme of the fine line between preference and fetish kept resurfacing. After attending a lecture by AIDS activist
Gregg Bordowitz in which he discussed our collective reaction to the Abu Ghraib prison scandal, “What kind of people
would torture other people?,” Abiola knew that the time was ripe for Alicia
in Wonderland. She wanted to inspire a discure about the othering of "abuse" and "terror", among
other things.
Sponsored by Genes Fashion House,
Soul Fixins, DV Depot, Den of Iniquity, Babes in Toyland, Tom McGhee Photos & Chip Neville.
Most of the people... making movies, independently and commercially are not true artists. They
are mostly artisans, which are needed as well. However, they are not willing to risk working in new or uncertain arenas
or to risk failing. Art is about exploration. Alicia in Wonderland been a fascinating journey to say the
least! As an artist I purposefully made this film with no nudity, sex or cursing to see how much our human imagination can
create and pass judgment on based solely on perceptions. xoxo
