ABOUT
DARE BY ABIOLA
Abiola with her performing goddesses at Rush Arts.
"I
am the first generation American daughter of Guyanese immigrants & the prospective victim
of many "isms." Boo-hoo! Let's move on. Life is not about bowing down to victimization. I look
forward to hosting or moderating for you, bringing a short film program or giving a talk about blowing expectations,
shedding victimhood and walking through obstacles. Yeah! You are more powerful than you can imagine."
"Thank you to all who joined us at The Women in
Cinema Series featuring Abiola Abrams on Saturday February 16, 2008. It was truly a great night of cinema by a talented
and energized personality and filmmaker. Ms. Abrams started the night with a quick intro about her work and professional
career as an indie filmmaker with a passion for cinemagraphic collage styles and Black female charged films. She described
her work as "...dealing with issues of gender, race, and empowerment". We viewed six shorts including "Stranded"
which was presented in part by The Berlin Film Festival. We also watched previews of her heated documentary of one women's
struggle with depression in "Knives at my Throat". We ended the night with a discussion on the understanding
and struggle of indie cinema in America along with a small reception after the showcase. We'd like to send a special
thank you to Ms. Abrams for sharing her work and time, as well as to the World Culture Open for their continued support of
Life as a Lemon Productions."

"Dear Abiola,
I've been meaning
to get in touch ever since your Dare event here last month. It was fabulous. Both
my co-workers raved about the event and word from a regular customer was that it was "the best event" we've
ever had. So, kudos to you and thank you for putting on such a great show."
